The American Diet

The "American Diet" is not a diet at all. It describes the unhealthy eating habits of our country. America is considered to be the most obese country in the world. Fast food, large portion sizes, lack of exercise and unhealthy eating habits are much to blame for this reputation.
The problem with eating unhealthy foods is it makes you crave even more junk food. Once you break the cycle of unhealthy eating, its easier to maintain good eating habits. Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and some cancers. Losing weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. The way we eat is a problem that is hard to deny. We need to work to develop better eating habits. But that's the problem... It requires work and most Americans are too lazy or busy to maintain a diet and exercise. It seems like we could come up with a thousand excuses of why we can't go for a short jog or hit the gym a couple times a week. We also can't make the fast food restaurants or junk food just disappear. It takes self control and hard work. America needs to break the cycle and work to become healthier.

  1. I agree with your statements. Obesity has become a major issue. I think that in today's world we are living so fast paced that we do not have time to eat right. I think that all the fast food commercials on tv encourages people to eat fast. You are in a hurry and you can eat fast by just driving through a window. I think that we should break the cycle and all start eating healthier. It will be better for our future.

  2. I agree with your position. Many people grab fast food as their meal multiple times a week because they are busy. It has become too much of a convenience. I think most people know that fast food is bad for you, but don't realize how bad it is. I think that there would be some eyes opened if the calorie count was clearly visible for whatever item you are ordering. When I went to New York this year with my choir, they posted however many calories were in food items right next to it on menus in sit down restaurants and on the wall where you order for fast food restaurants. I was taken aback by how the amount of calories that were in some of the foods that I eat on a daily basis. I think it cut down mostly everyone's portion size, if it didn't they probably had a slightly guilty conscience for eating a days worth of calories in one meal.
